FAQ (or frequently asked questions)

Q. Do you charge to give an estimate on a project?

A. Estimates are free.

Q. Can you give an estimate over the phone or internet?

A. In order to give you an accurate estimate, we usually need to see the project. Estimates take into account the current condition, the preparation required, size of the project area, the products and colors to be used, and several other details. We simply cannot give accurate estimates over the telephone or internet. A visual survey of the work area is necessary.

Q. Is JBI Painting insured & bonded? Why is that important?

A. Yes, we are fully insured and bonded. This means JBI Painting carries a comprehensive liability insurance policy, insurance on all of our vehicles, worker’s compensation for our employees and a bond that protects the customer and the company against employee dishonesty. These policies and bonds protect you, the home or business owner in case of an on-the-job injury or property damage. The dishonesty bond covers any incidence of employee theft should it occur. JBI Painting, however, has never had a claim for employee dishonesty and we do a thorough background check on all of our employees. Hiring a fully insured and bonded company is the only way to protect you against injury, property damage, and dishonesty claims.

Q. If I hire JBI Painting, will your employees do the job or do you sub-contract work out to another company or crew?

A. Employees of JBI Painting complete every project. We do not subcontract. We guarantee our work and it is very important to us to use our own trained and skilled workers so we can insure high quality work and professionalism on every job.

Q. What types of paints or stains do you use?

A. As a painting contractor, I will frequently use Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, or other name brand paints depending upon the specifics of the painting or staining project. We can accommodate customer requests when appropriate. Since it will effect the cost, we ask customers to make requests during the estimating process. JBI Painting is committed to using quality, eco-friendly materials that meet the specifications of the project in every instance.

Q. Is the cost of materials such as paint, stain, coatings and other supplies included in the cost of the project or does the customer have to cover those costs in addition to the estimate?

A. Normally, the cost of materials is included. If you prefer, we can specify labor costs and material costs in a project estimate or estimate a project without materials. As a painting contractor, we do receive discounts on certain brands. These discounts are not normally available to a consumer. By buying at a discount, JBI painting can save you money on materials.

Q. What is the difference between flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss and gloss paints?

A. The differences between these types of finishes typically lie in the amount of sheen or light reflectancy. Flats and mattes have the least amount and gloss finishes have the highest. Typically, flats, satins and eggshells are used on ceilings and walls in rooms where moisture is not common like bedrooms and living rooms. Semi-gloss and gloss paints are more appropriate for kitchens and bathrooms to keep out moisture and improve washability. Semigloss enamels are recommended for use on trim and doors because they cure to a harder finish and afford better protection against nicks and scratches.

Q. When should I use an oil-based paint?

A. Oil-based products are not user nor environmentally friendly and have been banned from use in the State of Ohio except in small quantities. All coating maufactureres have replaced their oil products with water-based or VOC compliant products. Although there are still a few available oil-based products, JBI Painting is committed to becoming a completely "Green" company that cares about the health of our environment and our employees.
